Darrell Clifton, CPP
Darrell has spent the majority of his life in the hospitality industry. Having worked in every department in a large resort, he has a unique and comprehensive understanding of every aspect of lodging, restaurants, nightclubs, retail and event management. His experience includes the general management of the resort, risk management, physical security and operations. He retired as the senior exeutive in charge of security for the Eldorado Resorts (Now known as Caesar's Entertainment).
Darrell is affiliated with and still sits on leadership councils, committees and working groups associated with the lodging industry and hospitality, gaming and tourism security. He was appointed by the two Nevada governors to participate in task forces that addressed school security, continuity of government, emergency planning, human trafficking and active shooter. He is also an expert on workplace violence, policy writing, and corporate training programs. He is often asked to conduct seminars and write training programs for private corporations, industry associations, and at two Nevada universities.
In 2010, Darrell published his first book on Hospitality Security. (Available on Amazon and others) The book was well-received by the Security community and remains the go-to reference and primer for security managers and others worldwide as well as a textbook for universities offering hospitality studies. Recently, Darrell wrote a second edition of this book with expanded sections on Risk, Nightlife, Trafficking. This more comprehensive edition is also available at most online booksellers. He is a regular contributor to numerous periodicals on a variety of subjects relating to Hospitality Security.
In 2011, Darrell was awarded Security Magazine's Most Influential Person of the year and in 2017 he received the ASIS Security Professional of the Year in Northern Nevada. He is board certified in Security Management, Surveillance, Gaming Management, and numerous other disciplines. He has been deposed throughout the US on matters related to premises liability, inadequate security and related topics for plaintiffs and defendants.
